Wait with Me
You met me in fall, and walked beneath my spangled branches.
You fell in love with my sunset-colored leaves;
You saw the sun through my branches and thought it was me.
You stayed with me ’til winter, although each leaf
That fell pierced you through the heart.
You watched me die and thought you were my poison.
Wait with me for spring, love.
Though you can’t see the growth I feel inside,
Stay with me and wait and watch for flowers
In the spring.
