Closing the Door

Filed under: > Miscellaneous, Poetry — Laura @ 12:00 am

I’m closing the door on the life I have lived,
It was never my life at all.
I’ve never known whom it belonged to,
I never asked to learn

I’m throwing away the key to somebody else’s life,
Somebody else’s hopes and dreams,
Somebody else’s love.

I dreamt my life, my walk, my love,
I dreamt of a long journey far from here.
But now I awake, and I realize
That I’ve never even risen from bed.

But now I rise, and I wash myself,
Forgetting the dreams of my night.
I don’t remember where I had walked;
It wasn’t me at all.

I see breaking dawn through the window,
The new day has hardly begun.
But I’ve locked the door on the life I have lived,
To never go back,
To never look back,
To never remember the love, the tears.

After Rain

Filed under: > Style Experiments, Poetry — Laura @ 12:00 am

The wet grass newly sparkles in the sun;
The flowers once more show their petals forth.
A warm breeze sleepily floats toward the north;
Small spiders crawl t’ repair the webs they’d spun.

The drops of water gleam like new-found pearls,
And tree boughs drip into a nearby stream.
A soggy frog sits sunning in his dream,
As all around the wet new life unfurls.

The grayness and the bleakness of the rain,
Which seemed to promise not a sign of dawn,
Now brings back life to this world once again.

The former night which ruled the earth is gone;
The sun shines down on all within his reign.
The duckling of the storm is made a swan.

The Desk

Filed under: > Miscellaneous, Poetry — Laura @ 12:00 am

Open me
Drawer by drawer
Sift through the contents
And take what you need
If a sheaf of papers
Catches your eye
Thumb through them
And if they interest you
Read them
Study them
Make them a part of yourself
Take that part of me into you
Open me
Drawer by drawer
Don’t be afraid
Of jumbling or spilling
The contents
Many of the drawers
Haven’t been cleaned
Or explored
In a long time
Or ever
Open me
Drawer by drawer
Look carefully
And find
What you’ve been looking for
It’s there
It’s always been there
